Audrey’s Studio Engagement Portraits

It was a joy to photograph Audrey and Juan together in my studio for their wedding engagement photos. Their wedding will be here in the Salt Lake City area, and engagement shoots are perfect for wedding announcements as well as beautiful displays to be shown at their wedding dinner and home later. Here are some of our favorites from the shoot. First, their double-sided wedding announcement portrait.

And this wall collage is great because it shows a lot of variety and personality without taking up a ton of wall space. It’s designed with visual balance and to keep your eye moving around to each of the images over and over.

brycox_audrey_engagement_studio_03

And these trios are stunning. They tell a story in a beautiful, framed design that is perfect for a table easel or wall. And see what I mean about these two being great together? 🙂

New 60 Second Videos About Wedding Photography

I’ve been working on some very short, 60 second videos about wedding photography. Not too long ago, when someone was looking for a photographer for the big moments in their life, they would visit in person with a few photographers. I liked that and still prefer it.

However, now people like to just shop on their phones. I get. I do the same. But photography is completely different than anything else. It’s so custom, so personal, and it’s the only thing we keep from a wedding to enjoy our whole lives and pass on to our children. Great photography become family heirlooms. People fight over it when we’re dead, and we see people on the news running into burning homes to save their family portraits.

What I create for people is so different and unique, just looking at photos on a website does not do it justice. So I’ve been working on some little videos so that prospective brides can quickly and easily see my images, get to know me, my personality, and also understand what makes my approach completely different.

Here are a few of these new videos. More are in production. See what you think and let me know.

Is there a video you’d like to see? Since most of my clients are women, if you’re a woman and looking for photography, what would you like to see? Post below or send me a personal email.
Okay, and until next time, America.

Happy 9th Wedding Anniversary to Brandi & Cory

Happy 9th Anniversary Brandi and Cory! It’s amazing how time flies, and I love being able to look back on the images I’ve created for people over the years. And on this day in 2007, these two got married and I wanted to share some of their engagement photos that I created for them back in 2007 in my Utah studio and outdoors in the studio gardens.

I know these two are having a wonderful life together and I hope your day today is extra grand. Happy Anniversary you two!

Matt & Treva’s Beautiful Engagement Shoot

This week I’ll be photographing Matt and Treva’s wedding. And recently I had the privilege of shooting their engagements and printing up their wedding announcements. Here’s some of their beautiful images.

BryCox_MattTreva_Engagement_001

We created a variety both in the studio for some black & whites, along with some beautiful color images here in the outdoor studio gardens. They way my Utah studio is designed, we can do both quickly and easily, in one location. And both Matt and Treva were great in front of the camera, and we had a big variety of wonderful images to choose from.BryCox_MattTreva_Engagement_002

I took some of their favorites and designed up this wall collage to be displayed at their dinner, and it’ll look great in their new home. Collages like these are best designed with a variety of expressions and looks, while keeping an artistic uniformity. I love how this turned out.BryCox_MattTreva_Engagement_003

The shoot went great. We all had a great time, and their excitement and emotions about being together and getting married really showed in their images. I can’t wait for their wedding.

Kiley’s Senior Portraits

Before Kiley moved to Hawaii with her family, we did her high school senior pictures here in Utah. And now that school is ending, it’s a great time to share these gorgeous images of this gorgeous girl.

Of every thing I shoot, high school seniors are one of my favorites. I often feel like a big kid and I love working with young people, chatting about their lives, and really creating lots of fun and creative images that tell a story about who they are. And Kiley’s photo shoot was even extra fun. She’s a joy to be around and being a dancer, we wanted to capture that side of her and get a lot of variety, images that really capture who she is right now.

Kiley started off her year going to Davis High here in Davis County, Utah. And before her family moved to Hawaii, we did her senior portraits here at my studio, and I am really excited about how everything turned out. This first image was one of my favorites, and we used it on her graduation announcement cards.

BryCox_Kiley_Senior_02

I love doing fashion lighting on seniors, and from this series of images I also designed a trio. It looked great once it was finished and framed.
BryCox_Kiley_Senior_06And being a dancer, we created some action shots of her dancing in the studio, and I used those to create this collage. She really looks beautiful in every single one of these images, and the entire design really flows and looked great finished.
BryCox_Kiley_Senior_07And of course for high school seniors, I like to do big sessions that include indoor and outdoor setups, plus multiple changes of clothes and backgrounds. One of our favorite outdoor images was this one of her dancing in the road.

BryCox_Kiley_Senior_08
She had a lot of beautiful outfits, and it was hard to pick favorites, but this one really stood out.
BryCox_Kiley_Senior_10

And I love doing 9-up collages for seniors. It’s a great way to show a lot of variety, and here are some of our favorites that made her collage.BryCox_Kiley_Senior_01 And here are some of those closer up.
BryCox_Kiley_Senior_11 BryCox_Kiley_Senior_12 BryCox_Kiley_Senior_14 BryCox_Kiley_Senior_16 BryCox_Kiley_Senior_17 BryCox_Kiley_Senior_19

It was a real pleasure to spend time with Kiley and do these portraits for her. I hope they all made it to Hawaii safely, and that her and her family enjoy these for many years to come.

And if you’re a high school senior and would still like to get some portraits done, I know school is ending for most seniors in Utah right now. And maybe you want some great images still, or perhaps you did a shoot elsewhere and regret them and would like something much better. Whatever the reason, give me a call and let’s get you something great that you and your family will love for a lifetime. Spring has sprung here at the studio and the outdoor gardens look great, plus I’ve been re-vamping the studio gear for even more fashion lighting and options.

Janae’s Studio Family Portraits

It was a rare opportunity to get all of Janae’s family in town together. So during this short window when everyone was in Utah, they came in for some new studio family portraits. And one of my personal favorite parts of creating family portraits is to connect with the children. I am not satisfied with kids just looking my direction or into the camera, and I don’t want cheesy, fake, or rehearsed smiles. I want them to really shine. I want a family grouping that is well composed, beautifully lit, where everyone (including the tiny kids) all look real and amazing. And I am really glad with how this turned out.

BryCox_StudioFamily_Janae_1

And with all family portrait sessions, I also like to photograph individual families. These final options were printed as 4 large squares and custom framed to match so that they could all hang together on Janae’s wall as a beautiful series. Notice how great everyone looks, especially the children.

BryCox_StudioFamily_Janae_2 BryCox_StudioFamily_Janae_3 BryCox_StudioFamily_Janae_4 BryCox_StudioFamily_Janae_5

And this last image is just a fun grouping of the original family. Portraits like this are great to show love and togetherness even though we all change.BryCox_StudioFamily_Janae_6

March is a great time to get in for some family portraits, and I have a promo going right now. Give me a call at 801-728-3317 and let’s discuss creating something new for you.

Shirley’s Portrait of Her Growing Family

Family portraits are incredibly fulfilling for me to create. A well-made family wall portrait brings joy to people for years if not decades. And Shirley’s family had grown quite a bit since I’d last photographed them. It was neat to see everyone, to hear about their lives as I photographed them, and I always find it especially fun to get little children to not just relax, but to smile and laugh for a portrait.

We had talked earlier about doing a large canvas panorama of her family above her couch, and this is the final image.

BryCox_Family_Studio_Pano_01

It’s a little hard to see all the great faces online, so I made this 15 second video to show the big group.

Because Shirley and her husband were leaving on a religious mission for a while out of the country, the large canvas pano would have been hard to take with them. So I used the individual family groups to create this square wall collage.

BryCox_Family_Studio_Pano_02

And here are some of the individual families. They were each shot individually for the panorama so that they could each get their own portrait, but it also made it easier on the family’s time constraints, as well as making the most of my custom style of lighting. I have a lot of space and options here in my Utah studio, but even a family this large makes for a very tight fit if I were to try and shoot everyone at once all in the studio. But shooting each family separately, we were able to create something much more unique and artistically pleasing, plus it helped the family because there were some members that couldn’t be there all at the same time. Everyone was coming and going throughout the shoot, and we never had everyone in the studio all at the same time. And it all worked perfectly.

As you view these families, notice how comfortably everyone is grouped together in each portrait, and how great each kid looks.

Family portraits are one of the most important images we can create. I believe strongly in a great family portrait, and now is a great time to get your family in the studio for a portrait.

Jason’s Acting Portraits

Jason was a great model during his acting shoot. He owns a tech company that he runs during the day, but in his free time, he does acting and needed some cool new photos. This first one was one of my favorites from the shoot.

BryCox_Jason_Acting_1

Being based in Utah, we can easily do a variety of looks, especially right here at the studio. For instance here, we created images inside the studio and outside as well, including this cool one with a motorcycle. BryCox_Jason_Acting_2 BryCox_Jason_Acting_3 BryCox_Jason_Acting_4

These are just some of the many images we created, but I think they show a variety of looks and different sides to his personality, which is something you try to get across in an acting photo.

Angie’s Family Portraits & Painting

Family portraits are important and meaningful, especially when children are young because they change so fast. It’s wonderful to be able to have a custom art piece on the wall that you can enjoy, not only right now, but also in 20 years.

And for my clients that are looking for something completely different, I offer my special line of painted family portraits. This is not some quick filter or effect. Instead I individually paint each image from scratch using a photograph that I create during your portrait session. It’s a lengthy creative process, but I created this sped up video so that you can see it come to life in a short 15 second time-lapse video.

That finished painting is now hanging as a beautiful canvas in their home. During the creation as I was photographing the family, their dog ran around behind them, came around the side and looked up at them. For one split second everything was perfect, and I quickly got that shot. Everyone is looking at each other and interacting including their beloved dog that really wanted to be a part of the moment.

BryCox_Angie-Family-01

With summer ending, this is the last great time to photograph families that want outdoor images. The studio gardens look amazing right now, and the colors are green and lush. We can do a variety of family options and groupings for a lot of choices. And though no one likes to think about Christmas early, the weather is starting to get cooler which means outdoor options will become limited, plus we only have about 14 Saturdays left to get things by Christmas. BryCox_Angie-Family-02

Besides family groups, it’s always nice to get an updated couple portrait. I’m amazed how many couples I photograph admit that they have not had a professional couple portrait since their wedding. Let’s fix that and get you something you can put on your desk at work or display around your home.BryCox_Angie-Family-03

Here at my Utah studio, we can shoot outdoors and indoors during the same appointment. For Angie’s family, we went in the studio for some fun, high-contrast black and whites of individuals that could be displayed as a series of squares going up the stairs.BryCox_Angie-Family-04 BryCox_Angie-Family-05 BryCox_Angie-Family-06

And those squares worked really well as this framed trio too.BryCox_Angie-Family-07

Let’s get some great portraits of your family inside the studio and outdoors in the gardens while the weather is still nice. Now is the perfect time to get in and beat the Christmas rush of fall.

Makenna’s High School Senior Album

Maybe you saw Makenna’s sneak peek a bit ago, and here is her entire senior portrait album. It’s always hard narrowing these fun shoots down to 20 pages, but the idea is to design a book that shows a lot of variety, personality, locations, outfits, while at the same time making sure that the design is simple and clean, and that every double-page spread works well as a mini story. For instance, this double-page design is based on the same color scheme, but shows a close-up and a mid-length in both serious and smiling.
BryCox_Makena-Sr_03

These books are so cool and I’m really excited about hers in particular that I decided to make a short video to show it off. So take a look at Makenna’s awesome album in this video.

Being a Utah-based photographer, you’ll notice in in my photographs that our state makes for a great backdrop. Makenna has beautiful mountains behind her ball field and my studio gardens are lush and full of trees and rock paths making it a great option if you want outdoor and/or indoor portraits without any travel fees.

So if you’re a senior or you know a senior, now is the time to beat the back-to-school rush and get some amazing portraits. The weather is awesome, the studio gardens are in bloom, and while it’s still summer you can pick an appointment at a time of day that works, not just after school.

Give me a call at 801-728-3317 and let’s create something wonderful that captures your personality in a beautiful way.

Until next time, America.

Portraits of Stephanie for Her Acupuncture Website & For Fun

Stephanie is a skilled acupuncturist here in Utah, and needed some new photographs for her business website. I convinced her to stick around the studio for some other fun model type images too because she is so photogenic. The shoot was a blast and the images are phenomenal and definitely show her personality. I created them to have a clean and welcoming look to both match her website and also to show her kind and caring personality, something prospects want to see when searching websites thinking about trying acupuncture.

BryCox_Stephanie-01

She owns S. Gross Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine in Salt Lake City, and I can tell you from personal experience that she is very good at what she does. She studied extensively in California and also Beijing China and has an impressive bio.

When I recently broke a rib, I was hobbling around and having a hard time even opening doors without grimacing and hurting, all while being wrapped around the middle for support. About 30 minutes after my first visit with her, I was able to remove my wrap because the pain had subsided a great deal. I was really quite shocked, and follow up visits helped with my pain, relaxation, and also I know helped my healing go faster too.

I also had two out of town speaking gigs coming up that required me to move heavy equipment and shoot photographs in front of a crowd which requires agility. One of those events was a two-day TV show where I had to work on camera for viewers. I was concerned about my abilities at these events, and Stephanie had me moving so well that people had no clue I was injured.BryCox_Stephanie-03

For this photo shoot, we started with some images on white for her website of her smiling. We quickly had what we needed, so I began shooting some other unique type of images just for fun. These were mostly serious, focusing on depth and beauty, and using specific lighting for her eyes and cheekbones. This first black and white image is really captivating and one of my favorites from the entire shoot, but all of these are quite stunning. It was hard to pick favorites.BryCox_Stephanie-02 BryCox_Stephanie-04 BryCox_Stephanie-05 BryCox_Stephanie-07 BryCox_Stephanie-08 BryCox_Stephanie-09

Thank you Stephanie for being a model for me in the studio, and if any of you are thinking of trying acupuncture, give her a call. It’s surprising how many things acupuncture can treat, so talk to her and see what she can do for you.

And if you need some wonderful photos for your business or website, give me a call at 801-728-3317. I’d love to create something great for you.

Mayzee’s One-Year Old Portraits

One of the fun things about being a professional portrait photographer for so many years is being able to see my clients grow and change. Many times I’ll photograph families, then the children’s engagements and weddings, then maternity, then baby portraits, then kids and new family portraits. It’s rewarding to see people come in again and again and see how they change and grow over time. It makes many of my clients feel more like family than customers as I’m a part of some of the big moments in their lives.

This particular family portrait has been a favorite of mine and has been a sample canvas on my wall for years. I’ve done a lot of portraits for them over the years and now the second to youngest son (two in from the left side) who is a young man in this family portrait, is much older and married. His wife recently called me.

BryCox_Mayzee_09

They have a beautiful sweet baby that just turned one years old. Her name is Mayzee and she came in for her one-year-old portraits.

She was a joy to photograph and warmed up to me really quickly. She would smile and laugh at me, and was cheerful throughout the entire shoot. Her personality had me laughing most of the time too, and she really responded well to all of my antics.
BryCox_Mayzee_01

Here is a wall collage using a b&w family portrait in the middle and two smaller wall images on the sides.

BryCox_Mayzee_10

And here are those images bigger.

BryCox_Mayzee_02 BryCox_Mayzee_03 BryCox_Mayzee_07

With her cute clothes and happy personality, we were able to do a variety of backgrounds and options. But no matter what prop I’d bring out to keep her in place and steady on her feet, she really loved my little blue chair the most. She’d push it around like a lawn mower, would sit in it, spin and turn in it, and if I brought out something else, she’d go get the chair and bring it back into the shoot.

BryCox_Mayzee_04

© BryCox.com, Bry Cox

BryCox_Mayzee_05

For this outfit and background I tried my little leather ottoman, but she quickly pushed it away and brought back the chair, as you can see in this trio design below. Another thing to note is that these photographs in these collages below have had zero retouching and no effects.

My specialty is exquisite lighting and emotion. That means that even before images are retouched that they should have the creative side of great expressions and personality, as well as the technical side of perfect skin tones, smooth skin, and sparkly eyes that pop. I don’t fake those things with software effects, filters, or painting afterwards. And the results are images with more emotional impact that I think people can see whether they’re trained in portrait photography or not.

BryCox_Mayzee_06

I really love this shoot and I’m excited to share it with you. There were so many favorites and such a variety of this little girl.
BryCox_Mayzee_08

If you would like some baby portraits that capture personality with a focus on emotion and exquisite lighting, then give me a call. 801-728-3317. Let’s talk about how easy a baby portrait shoot really can go.

Until next time, America.
