Makenna’s High School Senior Album

Maybe you saw Makenna’s sneak peek a bit ago, and here is her entire senior portrait album. It’s always hard narrowing these fun shoots down to 20 pages, but the idea is to design a book that shows a lot of variety, personality, locations, outfits, while at the same time making sure that the design is simple and clean, and that every double-page spread works well as a mini story. For instance, this double-page design is based on the same color scheme, but shows a close-up and a mid-length in both serious and smiling.
BryCox_Makena-Sr_03

These books are so cool and I’m really excited about hers in particular that I decided to make a short video to show it off. So take a look at Makenna’s awesome album in this video.

Being a Utah-based photographer, you’ll notice in in my photographs that our state makes for a great backdrop. Makenna has beautiful mountains behind her ball field and my studio gardens are lush and full of trees and rock paths making it a great option if you want outdoor and/or indoor portraits without any travel fees.

So if you’re a senior or you know a senior, now is the time to beat the back-to-school rush and get some amazing portraits. The weather is awesome, the studio gardens are in bloom, and while it’s still summer you can pick an appointment at a time of day that works, not just after school.

Give me a call at 801-728-3317 and let’s create something wonderful that captures your personality in a beautiful way.

Until next time, America.

Kim’s Portland Temple LDS Wedding Sneak Peek

Kim’s wedding was really magical. Besides being a beautiful bride, we also had the gorgeous backdrop of Portland and the LDS temple were they got married, plus a stormy sky for drama. Here is an early sneak peek into some of my favorites from her wedding day.

When I was parking for the wedding, I found this spot that looks out into the forest. It make for a great location for these images that I made into a trio.  BryCox_Kim_Wedding_Portland_LDS_Temple_04 BryCox_Kim_Wedding_Portland_LDS_Temple_05 BryCox_Kim_Wedding_Portland_LDS_Temple_06

Liz & Dewayne’s Engagement Portraits

I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to photograph Liz and Dewayne’s engagement portraits. They are a great couple together, and we created so many wonderful and romantic images that it was hard to narrow them down. Here are a few of my favorites.

BryCox_Liz_Dewayne_Engagement_06

Being a photographer based outside of Salt Lake City, Utah, I’ve got a lot of options right here at my studio. For a lot of variety, we shot both outside in the studio gardens as well as inside the studio, and in color and black and white. And I always like to do a few images of the bride and groom individually too. For these I went with my high-contrast black and white series and these two images look wonderful together.

BryCox_Liz_Dewayne_Engagement_04 BryCox_Liz_Dewayne_Engagement_03This image is the official invitation photograph. I really like how great they both look, the sparkles in their smiles, and how close they are to each other in this.  I love photographing couples that are happy together because the images are even more romantic.

I also can’t wait to share the bridal portraits, as they are really out of this world. But I will hold off until after the wedding so that the dress can be kept a surprise.

Makenna’s Senior Portrait Sneak Peek

This weekend I photographed Makenna for her high school senior portraits. She graduates in just a couple weeks, and though she hasn’t seen any of these images yet, I thought I’d share a sneak peek of some of my early favorites for the Memorial Day weekend.

She is smart, funny, and the shoot was so much fun. We started outside at her softball field and successfully avoided the rain while getting some really cool images of her in uniform. The storm clouds made the shoot all the more dramatic.

BryCox_McKenna-Sr_01

Then we came to my studio for some fun studio images like this trio and textured art piece.  BryCox_McKenna-Sr_02 BryCox_McKenna-Sr_03 BryCox_McKenna-Sr_04

With both a location and studio shoot, we really shot a lot and will have a lot of fun picking them out. With so many great images, I’ll make sure I post some others here after things are worked up.

Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone. And until next time, America.

Andraia’s City Photo Shoot

One fun way to shoot outside in the colder seasons of Utah when nothing is in bloom is to shoot downtown in the city, using the textures and buildings as a background. Of course that only works for certain kinds of shoots and all the elements have to work together for an artistic theme, which is why this is such fun shoot to share. I think it is a great shoot where all of this works perfectly.

First, Andraia’s clothing choice of warm and black tones not only blended well with the colors of the city, but it also made her stand out and created a fun style for this fashion shoot. And secondly, she moves really well and takes direction perfectly which is really needed because lighting people in a city takes a bit of work. I need to light her to compliment her and also light for the background to create depth, and all the while be non-intrusive with the various stands and pieces of gear I’m setting up so that people walking by don’t trip or break my stuff. Yet the look is that no one is there and the whole image pops.

Cox_Andraia_001

I like these long lines of the pillars with her standing full length. The straight lines of the pillars and the angles of the steps are a nice juxtaposition against her curves and her stance. Plus it’s fun to have that splash of blue up in the far corner for balance.

Below, Andraia’s serious expression and the perfect material of her outfit is all contrasted against the old ragged stone.Cox_Andraia_002 Cox_Andraia_003

Down an alleyway, some elements and lines in the wall worked great for visual balance for this photo.Cox_Andraia_004

But the overall look and pose make me think of a painting too, so I took some time to create one of my unique paintings. I have creative ideas before I start but the painting process makes me change my mind and therefore I never really know what I’ll end up with. Here I ended up completely changing the background to a more abstract and textured background and I love how every part of this turned out.

Cox_Andraia_005

In this area, I really liked the gold railing and set up using an angle that made for a nice complimentary background while also hiding a lot of distracting things as well. But here we were more exposed to the street because we were right on the sidewalk. That meant getting a lot of distracting attention from passerbys who would stop, gather around, watch, or even yell questions to us. We even got some whistles. Yet, Andraia was a pro and wasn’t distracted, and continued to take great direction, move well, and even throw me a genuine smile for this shot.

Cox_Andraia_006

It is always a pleasure to shoot Andraia, and this shoot provided too many great images to choose from. But these are some of my favorites.

Warm weather is coming, and it’s a great time to make an appointment for your photo shoot. But no matter the weather, I know just how to create some great images for you. Jolie’s Wedding Album Design, Timpanogos Temple

Jolie’s wedding at the Timpanogas Temple in American Fork, Utah is beautiful. It was a hot day which meant a deep blue sky with the right handling of light. And mixed with the couple’s really fun personalities, the images are great and romantic. You may have seen their sneak peek earlier on my blog, but I wanted you to see the entire album.

As you view this, notice how happy they are to be together, how great they look, and how vibrant the colors are, and how wonderful every single photograph looks.

Michelle’s Wedding Album at the Rock Church & Providence Bed & Breakfast (Logan, Utah)

I’ve been excited to post this wedding for some time because I had a wonderful day photographing Michelle & Tysen’s wedding at the Rock Church & Providence Bed & Breakfast in Logan, Utah.

The couple is so wonderful together, the day was planned perfectly, and the emotion in these images is wonderful. There was a lot of attention to detail with beautiful gifts for the guests, gorgeous flowers, a wonderful backdrop of flowy material and tall trees, and the sunset was stunning. The entire collection of images are romantic, dramatic, and the images tell the story beautifully. Here is their entire album design as a slideshow from morning until sunset.

The album design starts in the morning with the couple getting ready, then it moves to the bride and groom seeing each other for the first time (first sight portraits). Then before guests arrived, we took some time walking around and creating some really romantic images of just the couple. Then the ceremony starts, you see the family groupings, and then the really fun reception complete with live music, croquet, and bocce ball.

The music is by my sister, Elise (MusicByElise.com)

Outdoor Family Painting & Portraits in a Field

I love photographing families and creating unique pieces of art for them, and my painting line is definitely unique. Starting with a photo for reference, this painting is created from scratch with no computer filters or quick effects. They are stunning to look at in person, but are hard to describe online, so I created this animation showing some of the steps of how this painting came together over time. It starts out very rough and abstract, and slowly comes together. When I finish the piece, I like to leave a lot of the rough, abstract brush strokes around the edges and throughout the background. It gives it a very etherial look, and makes it hard to mistake it for a photograph. However the faces are always very detailed.

These paintings are available in a variety of sizes starting at 20 inches, and are perfect for outdoor fall family portraits. Right now is my fall family portrait special. All the details are on the past blog post, but here’s a link. It’s a great time to get in for a shoot while the weather is great, and before the Christmas rush.© BryCox.com, Bry Cox

And aside from shooting for a painting, together we’ll create some great images of your family during the shoot. I have great options for outdoor portraits at my studio, but this image was created on location at a spot near this family’s home. This family was so nice and fun to work with. The weather was actually very hot during this session, and for most photographers that would mean bright, washed out skies and blotchy sun marks on the skin which means most photographers would probably make the image black and white to hide their problems. But light is my specialty, and I set up some powerful and direct lighting to bring add dimension the family, while at the same time darkening the sky. The result is a beautiful family with warm, beautiful skin tones, lots of spacial dimension, a gorgeous sky with dramatic clouds, and a field full of warm vivid colors.

After the family portrait, I like to focus on the kids. These kids were very smart and funny. I was amazed at the advanced subjects they were studying in school. And I really like the real and natural expressions in each of these images.© BryCox.com, Bry Cox © BryCox.com, Bry Cox

Janae’s Wedding Album Is Gorgeous, Bountiful LDS Temple

Janae & Jason’s wedding album is finished and I am boxing it up to ship out to them. It looks so amazing that I had to share it here. You may remember the sneak peek from their wedding, well here is the final product, their finished album and briefcase. I shot this video today before shipping it out so you could see what it looks like.

I love photographing weddings. They are romantic and inspiring, and I love putting my heart and soul into every detail, and creating wonderful finished products that future grandchildren will fight over.

This wedding was on a stormy spring day, which meant with the right use of lighting, I was able to capture this amazing sky in their background for really dramatic images.

Shasta’s Engagement & Family Portraits

We had such a fun time creating these engagement portraits of Shasta and her fiancé. We did a mix of outdoor and studio portraits and some of our favorites were high contrast black & whites from the studio.

I took some of the favorites and created this 9-up collage. It looked so beautiful when it was finished and framed.

BryCox_Shasta_01

Shasta also has 3 adorable little kids and we took the opportunity to create a new updated family portrait.

BryCox_Shasta_07

Her kids were so cute and fun, that we did some individual portraits of them as well. I spent most of the shoot laughing with them because they were so funny. I think you can see that in the photos. They each had so many great images and each showed different sides of their personality, that I ended up using a few images of each child to create this collage.

I am excited for this marriage and hope these guys all have a wonderful new life together, and I can’t wait to photograph this awesome family again.

Sneak Peek of Michelle’s Wedding at the Old Rock Church

This weekend I photographed Michelle and Tysen’s wedding at the Old Rock Church up in Cache Valley, outside of Logan Utah. It was a gorgeous location, a beautiful day, and being such a great couple meant for lots of beautiful images all day long. Here is a sneak peek of some of my early favorites.
