Laura, Flavia, AltaMODA, and Fashion Bridals!

I created some amazing photographs of a good friend of mine, Laura, as she modeled some gorgeous gowns from AltaMODA, my favorite and only couture bridal shop in Salt Lake.

Laura’s hair and make-up was expertly done by Flavia of VersaArtistry.com.  All of these images were created right here at my indoor studio, using some of my new sets that I’ve been building.

I’m finding that there is a huge and growing trend for indoor studio portraits lately, and I think that it has to do with the fact that there are so many new and well-meaning photographers (without studios, credentials, or business licenses) all doing exactly the same thing in exactly the same locations — and throwing the same kitschy computer effects on all of their images.

This phenomenon is causing clients to ask me for images that don’t look like they were created by just anyone with a camera and computer, but rather they are looking for images that are both funky and classy at the same time — images that are both stylized and flattering at the same time, without excuses.  People are asking not only for artistic, creative, and unique photographs, but they want to look great in every single image — that they always look amazing!

I’m finding a growing response to photographic credentials, as well as more requests for indoor studio work.  These new requests have led me to redo my indoor camera area with more options and to create some fantastic new sets which I’m very excited about.

So though people are still asking for appointments in my outdoor garden, they are also asking for indoor studio portraits.  Many are wanting a mix of both indoor and outdoor, especially during these past few weeks of uncertain Utah spring weather.  With all of the time and money to get their hair and makeup done and to get a fantastic dress, they want to know that an appointment will not be moved due to rain, wind, or anything else.  The indoor camera sets are solving that.

So as you look at these images, note the gorgeous dresses, the fantastic hair and makeup, the great model, and also the fact that these images are not retouched and have no computer effects applied.

These images are straight photography!  The fun colors, dramatic lighting, flattering and interesting poses — all in-camera!  When you have a great photograph, there isn’t the need to kitsch it up with computer effects.

So if you are getting married and would love fun, fashionable images where you look amazing in every image, then give me a call at 801-728-3317.  I’m happy to photograph your entire wedding or just some bridals, depending on your budget.

My Sister’s Wedding

My sister’s wedding album is all designed and is now off being bound right now.  I should get it back to present to her very soon, but in the meantime, here’s some previews.

This is one of the two-page spreads from the album.  I design so that the images go across the middle of the page, which gives me some fantastic use of space.

I love the mood in these images.  Having the temple in the background and the couple silhouetted in the window is just so beautiful!

And this two-page spread is serene and romantic.  Images of each of them alone, lit by the setting sun, then a couple portrait of the two of them in the same place, leaning up against the Salt Lake Temple, and then on the opposite page a distant image of them farther away from the temple as juxtaposition.

I like circles, especially when it has to to with temple weddings, because in ancient Hebrew, the circle is a symbol for light and eternity — which is true in our modern culture as well.  Framing these two on the left page with circles is a fun way to tie in some powerful symbolism into their heirloom album in a really artistic way.

If you’d to preview the entire wedding and design, check out this slideshow! (click here).  It will open in a new window and will begin playing as soon as it loads, which may take a moment depending on your internet connection.

I’m so excited for my sister to get her finished book.  It was a spectacular and emotional wedding, not to mention that its a real honor to be able to photograph someone in my family and to be apart of the wedding in such a unique way — a way that provides them with a beautiful and artistic heirloom for the rest of their lives.

New Wedding Slideshow

I have created and posted a new short video of incredible Bry Cox wedding portraits. I made it to show that photographs are life-long heirlooms, and that wedding images can be fun, yet also classy and timeless.  It doesn’t have to be one or the other.  To see it, click on the image below, or go to BryCox.com, and click on ‘slideshows’ on left menu.

Wedding Album Designs Online

Now that I’m settled in the new year and have gotten past some of my big events, I took time to get some of the 2009 weddings up online.  I work really hard to get all my weddings retouched, designed, printed, book-bound and completely delivered for Christmas so that all my brides can have their beautiful albums for the holidays.  And I succeeded this year and was able to get all m 2009 albums out for Christmas.  I didn’t however have time to get all those wedding designs up online until now.

I love people to see albums all the way through to the end – seeing all the images and the entire design so that they know that everything I do is quality all the way through, every page, every image, the entire design!

BryCox - Ashley's Album

I am so excited about these albums.  These are fantastic! Here’s the first, Ashley & Adam’s Album.  I love Ashley and have photographed her and her family many times over the years.  It was a great wedding.  Her wedding was at Red Butte Gardens in Salt Lake, with her dress was custom made at my favorite dress shop, Alta Moda.

And as always, these albums are laid out to look great open, with two pages up at a time.  I’ve made these designs play as movies which show each 2-page spread, just like these images show.  The book would fold in the middle of these pages.

BryCox - Brittney's Album

And this is Brittney and Ben’s Wedding.  It was in the Denver area at the Denver temple.  This was so fun, because I’ve photographed almost all of the bride’s side of the family at different times, and I feel like a relative in a way.

BryCox - Cammy's Wedding Album

And here is Cammy and Dan’s wedding.  It was up in Huntsville Utah at the groom’s home, and my favorite part of the day was catching the sunset out in the field.  They were such a great couple, as were all of these couples.  I feel honored to be apart of these people’s special day.

Well there are more albums still to post from 2009.  I’ll get to them hopefully very soon.

Until next time, America!

I’m very excited for my sister’s wedding tomorrow.  As far as the weather, it should be warmer than it’s been lately (the high is supposed to be 32º F), and there’s a strong possibility of snow too.  I hope it does snow because that will mean some very fun outdoor portraits at the temple after the wedding.  I’ll put some images of her wedding soon.

I also need to post some of the wedding album designs that I finished for clients for Christmas.  I was very excited about them and feel they were some of the best albums I’ve ever created.  They were so fantastic!!  Now that the holidays are over and I’m back to a regular schedule again, I’ll get the up online.

Until next time, Amercia!

Nikki & Anthony’s Wedding

It was a real honor for me to photograph a wedding for a very well-known photographer and PPA Master, Gary Weitzeil.  Gary’s son Anthony, was getting married and I was their choice as the wedding artist.

Photographers, more than anybody, know just what to look for in another photographer, and they also know how important photography is as both an art piece as well as an heirloom.  Needless to say, it was a real joy to be apart of Nikki and Anthony’s wedding.  And this couple was very fun to work with and had a joy and excitement about them that was incredible.

Here is one of my favorite images from the wedding day.  Their wedding was the only day that week that didn’t rain, but we still had the ominous clouds.  I was going nuts because I absolutely love storms and turbulent air, especially as a background.  I love the drama of a great stormy sky, especially on a distant establishing image like this.  Their wedding was fantastic.

Congratulations, you two.

And until next time, America!

Stephanie’s Wedding

Last week I was teaching a photographic workshop in Florida. I flew home Friday in order to photograph Stephanie’s wedding on Saturday. It was a perfect day and the weather was wonderful! The wedding was at the Salt Lake Temple in the morning and the lights and clouds were perfect!

Here are some of the preliminary images from just my first level of processing.  More artwork will go into the images as they are getting prepped for the album design.

Her reception was at the Ogden Airport at the Kemp Jetway Center.  It was a fabulous location for a reception.  I grew up around planes and even studied as a kid to get my pilot’s license by age 14 (though I didn’t have the money for the flight hours and never got it).  I love airports and therefore had a great time creating moody images using the planes and the location.  Here’s one of my favorites from that location, using the runway and mountains as a background at twilight!

When the album is designed, I will for sure post it here.  In the meantime, if you would like to see some Stephanie’s engagements, you can check them out here: (Stephanie’s Engagements).  There is a wonderful painting there that you will love to see!

Thanks everyone and until next time, America!

Brittany’s Bridals

I’m very excited about Brittany’s bridal shoot. Her wedding is still to come and will be in Denver next month, but here are some of the images I’ve been working on for her that will be apart of her bridal display at the wedding.

I love this long horizontal image — not only the lines, but her eyes too!  Stunning!

BryCox - Brittany 2

Here is a fun image using a very unique background that I adapted (not originally created for a photographic background), lit with a glamour style, and processed using one of my custom cross-color processes.

BryCox - Brittany 3

And finally, here’s a great image that I started to light as a silhouette, but then turned her slightly for a little more powerful angle.  I loved how this session went.  This is just a sample of all the great images!  I’m very excited to finish this order and to photograph the wedding.  It’ll be a great day, Brittany!

And until next time, America!

Stephanie’s Engagements

Well I’ve been out of town a lot lately, and have gotten behind on the blog posts, but I have a lot to put and am not sure if I can get it all up before more cool shoots come along to blog about.

But for now I have to tell you how excited I am about these images from Stephanie’s engagement session.  This first image is a painting that I’ve been working on.  It uses a new technique I’ve been working on and utilizes some of my brand new brushes that I’ve developed for photographers.

Bry Cox - Painting for Stephanie

I love the feeling of the entire image, how great the couple looks, the vibrant surreal colors, the abstract shapes in the trees and grass….  I’m very excited to get this finished and on canvas!

This next series is a nine-image composite of the couple.  I love how in love they are and am excited for their wedding!

Composites are great for couples I think to show motion, and emotion.  I designed up two for them, this one above and this treo below.

Well that’s it for now.  I’ll get some more of my projects up quickly!  I’ve got a lot of new things to show.

Until next time, America!

Nicole & Ammon’s Wedding

What a fun morning.  Today, Nicole and Ammon came in to see their final wedding album design, as a large slideshow projection in the theater, here at the studio.

It is such a beautiful design and I’ve been excited for them to come and see it.  Here is one of  my favorite page spreads from the album.  If you are unfamiliar with my albums, this spread represents two pages, like an open book.

Bry Cox - Nicole's Album

Their wedding was held at the Salt Lake Temple with their reception at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.  They are a great couple and have been very fun to work with.

To see their entire album in slideshow form, click here.  I think you’ll see that they are very photogenic and very much in love.  There is a lot of sparkle in these two which really makes the album amazing!

Until next time, America!

Gateway Wedding Show this Saturday

BryCox - Gateway Wedding Show

BryCox - Gateway Wedding Show

This Saturday, I’ll be at the Gateway Wedding Show, located in the Grand Ballroom next to The Depot at the Gateway.  The show goes from 10 am to 4 pm and it should be a lot of fun.  I’ll be bringing some new albums and some new beautiful samples to show.

Bridal shows are a great way to see and compare different photographers and other wedding vendors very quickly, and I’m excited for you to come and see me and what I do, and to compare the quality and value against anyone else.

If you’re getting married, stop by and say hi.  It’d be fun to see you.

Until Saturday, America!
