Ryan Shupe, Live at Sandy Amphitheater

What a show!  Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand played on Friday night at the Sandy Amphitheater to a packed house, and it was awesome!  It is always nice when the band has a local, in-state show, and this show in particular was to kick off their new album, Last Man Standing.

Here are some of the images I did of their concert that night.

I also did the shoot for their latest album, which can be seen here.  If you haven’t heard them in concert, you should.  Their shows have so much energy and are absolutely amazing!  It is very refreshing to see musicians that actually play instruments, and who are super proficient at them as well.

And check out their new album and let me know what you think.

Until next time, America!

Karily’s Wedding at Salt Lake Temple & La Caille

I posted the slideshow for Karily’s wedding today. You have to see this one! It is fantastic! It was in December at the Salt Lake Temple, with the reception held at La Caille.

I love the vivid colors and how happy and in love the couple is, and the entire flow of the album.

Karily\'s Wedding

Click either the photo (album spread) above, or click here to see the slideshow. And remember, my album slideshows are laid out to show two pages at a time, as if the album is open (like the spread above).

I want my albums to tell the story of the couple’s day, and quality is everything to me, down to the smallest details. I personally design each album. Every page is laid out for flow, harmony, balance, and impact, without the use of pre-designed templates or other shortcuts.

Notice too how the album tells the story of the couple’s day, from beginning to end!

Enjoy, and until next time, America!

The Construction Detour is Over!

Ah! After months and months of working on my street, the job seems to be done and the detour is gone. Everyone can now use my street as it was intended…to drive straight to my place!

This construction job started on my street to replace an old bridge back in November and was supposed to be done after Christmas. And in thinking about it, and in all all fairness, June is after Christmas. 😉

In any case, I just wanted everyone to know that the easy way to get to my place is open! It’s a straight shot to and from the freeway again!

Until next time, America!

New Colorful Albums

I am very excited about some of my new colorful albums.  Design-wise they are the same inside as my other custom albums, but include more colorful covers.  The pages bind closer together down the middle than my ‘Old World’ book so that 2-page spread designs are less interrupted in the middle.  Like all my custom books, each page is mounted and lacquered for the best protection and presentation.

These two albums below are some samples I’ve created of some recent wedding designs.  I will be showing them at upcoming bridal shows, or you can also see them by scheduling a personal meet and greet with me to talk about your upcoming wedding.

These weddings above can be seen in slideshow form right here:
   Red Album Slideshow,
   Blue Album Slideshow.

The Red Album was held in the groom’s backyard and the Blue Album was a beach wedding in Cabo.

Until next time, America!

Wasatch Woman: Muffy Mead-Ferro

Muffy

I shot the cover of the latest issue of Wasatch Woman magazine, which is out now. The cover photograph is of author Muffy Mead-Ferro who wrote the books, Confessions of a Slacker Mom, and Confessions of a Slacker Wife, based on the idea that you can’t do everything, and sometimes shouldn’t — but instead need to step back sometimes and allow your kids to get hurt or fail in order for them to really learn and become good adults.

I created the images for the cover and article in her home which is located in the Avenues of Salt Lake City. The cover image was created in her front entry way and shows a large painting of her daughter playing the piano in the next room, appearing as if her daughter is looking at her.

Another one of my favorite images is featured in the article, and shows Muffy in her beautiful kitchen.  I designed the images to portray her as a great mom.

If you get a chance to check it out, I think you’d like this issue.

This week I finished the cover for the upcoming issue of Wasatch Woman, and I am very excited! It is absolutely stunning! I can’t say yet who it is of, or even give you a glimpse of what it may look like, but when it comes out I’ll post it here.

Well, have a good Memorial Day weekend, and until next time America!

Shupe’s New Album

Shupe

Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand have a new album coming out in a few days. The photo shoot was a lot of fun, and I was curious to see how the record label would use the images in the final layout.

Having seen the final layout, I can tell you that it will look cool! Here is a sneak peak of the cover.

Ryan Shupe - Last Man

I think it has a cool vibe to it and I’m excited to hear the final tracks.

I love photographing bands. Those kinds of shoots allow me to be the most creative and try completely new things. They are also very exhausting, because like many commercial shoots, they are an all day gig without any breaks.

For this photo shoot we even built some amazing sets too, so it would look like we were in an old hotel’s narrow hallway.

Shupe - Hotel

Some of those ‘hotel’ images are on the group’s website as the headers, like this image below.

Shupe Header 1

Go to their site and hit refresh a few times and check out the different header images. And while you are there, buy an early copy of the CD so you get a signed copy, and check out the tour dates coming up, and watch some of their fun videos.

If you go to any concerts, come say hi to me! 🙂

Until next time America,

Trevor’s Senior Portraits

Yes, this week I’m working like crazy to finish a bunch of senior orders.

One order I’ve been working on is for Trevor of Weber High.  Here are some of his awesome portraits.

I have very specific techniques for processing images when I do work for magazines.  I use those same techniques on senior portraits, and they tell me that they love having cool photographs that are different.

Enjoy these images of Taylor.  If you know him, ask him for some copies of these images…especially if you’re a cute girl.  I’m sure he’d like that.  🙂

Until next time, America!

Texas Workshop 2008

Well, I’m back!  Last week I was speaking and teaching at the world’s largest portrait photographic workshop, held once a year for a week in College Station Texas.  It is called Texas School!  Over 1000 photographers fly in to attend Texas School from all over the US as well as many other countries too.

Unlike speaking at a convention for 3 to 6 hours, this type of workshop gives me the ability to really spend time and go more in-depth in the subjects I teach: Creativity, Technical, and Successful Business Techniques.  The class sizes for these week-long workshops are limited so you really can learn and ask questions, spending every day all day with the instructor for an entire week.

I am proud that my class sells out literally in just minutes every year!  My class this year was wonderful.  Here is our class photo, inspired by a phrase in my creativity section of the seminar called, “Thinking inside the box.

Texas Workshop 2008

I have more week-long workshops planned for this year.  If you are a photographer and are interested, then check out my workshop site at BryCoxWorkshops.com for dates and locations.  Also, there is a workshop in the works that will be held right here at my studio some time this year.  If you are interested in that, let me know.

And, until next time, America!

Jasmine’s Senior Portraits

It’s that time of year, when I’m swamped with senior portraits.  Here are some images I’ve been working on for Jasmine.

Jasmine plays the piano, so we did a series of images with a beautiful grand piano, wearing a dress that she designed and made with her mother.  I love this image above.  It has such great lines, beautiful lighting, a great composition, and the perfect expression!

I created this image to better show off the beautiful dress, using the piano as a secondary subject.  I love to do high school senior portraits, because I can be very creative, and the seniors love my style!

I’ll get some more image of other seniors up on the blog as soon as I get some free time, including some samples of guys too.

So if you’re an upcoming senior, schedule your session early.  Think about calling now to book your summer portrait sessions.  You’ll get the best portrait times and get a head start on creating some amazing portraits!

Until next time, America!

Speaking at Pictureline

April 12th was Canon Day at Pictureline, Utah’s premier photography store.  In fact, after speaking and traveling all over the country and visiting camera stores everywhere, Pictureline stands out to me as not only the cleanest and most beautifully organized, but also as the store with the most helpful and knowledgeable staff on photography.  I love to shop there!

Pictureline

I felt very honored to have them ask me to speak and do a program for them on this big day.  I started with an abbreviated version of my creativity program, then demoed and showed how I use cameras, reflectors, and other pieces of lighting in a real shoot of my friend Nattalie, a professional model hired for the event.

Here are some of the images I created that day.

We photographed outside the store using various angles and lighting, in both shade and full sun.  After that, we went inside the store where the staff had set up a full studio for me to work with.

While I was shooting, the staff at Pictureline would print the images I was creating on various printers!  They looked fabulous.  It was a great day!

For those interested in attending one of my photography workshops, visit my workshop site for locations and dates on upcoming events.

I also plan on doing a workshop here at my studio some time this year.  It will be limited to a select number of photographers.  If you are interested in attending one here in Utah, let me know.

Well, until next time, America!

Joe McQueen Day (part 2)

Last Friday was Joe McQueen day in Utah (see last post), and we had a great time going and hearing him play.  Upon arriving at the club, the owner gave special treatment to my date and I after seeing that I had a beautiful portrait of Joe in my hands.  I had made it up to give to Joe for having his own day.

Joe McQueen at the Wine Cellar

It was so fun to hear the guys all jam together again.  All of these guys are really the absolute best in the state.  In this photo, Clayton Furch (who I took jazz piano improv lessons from years ago) on keyboard, Don Keipp (my jazz instructor all through college) on drums, Lars Yorgensen on bass, Richard Bush on baritone sax and clarinet, …and I don’t know the fellow playing trombone.

It was a great night of wonderful music and fun dancing.

Until next time, America!

Joe McQueen Day!

Some years ago, Utah Governor Leavitt made April 18th, the official “Joe McQueen Day” in Utah. Joe is infamous to jazz musicians in Utah — an absolute legend. He has played Jazz in Utah professionally since his 20’s, and is about to turn 90 next month.

Throughout that time, Joe has played with the absolute pinnacle leaders of the jazz movement: Charlie Parker, Dizzie Gillespie, Lester Young, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Chet Baker, to name a few.

Joe and I met years ago while I was playing the tenor sax in my jazz group in college, and because of that friendship had the privilege of doing some portraits of him recently.

Joe still plays regularly in the clubs of Ogden, and today being ‘Joe McQueen Day,’ he’ll be playing tonight at the Wine Cellar, located at 2550 Washington Blvd starting at 9:00 pm.

Back in the day, Ogden, Utah was one of the biggest hubs for Jazz east of the Mississippi, and Joe was right in the middle of it all. I feel honored to know him, to be able to create such emotional portraits of him, and am very excited to take my date tonight to see him play in downtown Ogden. For my readers that live in Utah, if you are free tonight and love jazz music, you should come down and see a jazz legend perform on his day, in the old jazz district that he loves.Until next time America!
