Max & Stephanie’s Wedding – Bountiful LDS Temple

Max and Stephanie approved their final wedding album design and it’s now off to the bookbinder’s for final binding.  I was very excited for them to see this fantastic album, because I loved the design and feels that it captures their special day so well.

Here’s a few page designs from their wedding album.  Each of these is an open two-page spread.

I’ve also posted their entire wedding album for you to see online as a slideshow. (Click here to view album as a slideshow.)

I love how happy these two are together and I think this first double-page spread really shows that off with the two of them dancing, framing the beautiful portrait of them sitting together.

This is a very dramatic spread, shot as a panorama capturing the fantastic sky, and the entire temple.  It is printed edge to edge, taking up both pages!  So cool!

And this spread is designed as a fun series f the two of them together.  These are just a portion of the entire album, as the entire album is about 44 pages long!  If you’d like to see the book in its entirety, check out this link. (Click here to view album as a slideshow.)

Also, as a reminder to everyone to get me your final orders for Christmas as I’m finishing up orders very soon.  Thanks for looking and please browse my main website at BryCox.com (or my blog if you’re reading this in a separate feed reader BryCox.com/blog).

Merry Christmas!!

How Well Do You See Color?

Did you know that 1 out of 255 women and 1 out of 12 men have some form of color vision deficiency?  I wonder if that means that women see color better generally then men?  I’ll bet that a lot of women already believe this is true.  Nevertheless, I’ve always thought that I could see color really, really well which is why I’m such a stickler about quality and my production methods.

Well now you can test your ability to see color.  There are a lot of photographers who follow my blog, as well as some designer friends too.  But really, everyone ought to try this and see how you do.

Here’s the link, X-Rite Online Color Challenge. It’s an easy test.  All you do is arrange the tiles in order of hue.  There’s no registration or email required, just a fun test to try.

When I did it, I tried not to take too much time, but just worked fast.  I think you’re better at seeing that way.  You can take the test over and over, and even try it on different computer monitors too.  However just see what you get on the first try.

I took it for the first time last night after a photographer friend sent it over to me, and here’s what I got — Zero errors — a Perfect Score! YES!

Bry's Results from the online color test

There’s a reason then that I do what I do.  Well thank you to X-Rite for putting this online.  X-Rite is actually one of my suppliers and they sell color profiling equipment for cameras, computer monitors, printers, and projectors.  I’m a stickler about color and profiles and have used their equipment for years, even back when the company used to be called GreTag MacBeth.  If you’re a photographer, I strongly recommend (as I always to when I’m speaking), that you have a color profile system in place for your workflow.

If you’d like to know more about my color profile system and workflow, come see me speak at a city near you.  To see my upcoming schedule, go to my workshop site, BryCoxWORKSHOPS.com.

And for everyone else, thanks for looking and please browse my main website at BryCox.com (or my blog if you’re reading this in a separate feed reader BryCox.com/blog).

Merry Christmas and Happy Shooting!

New Orleans Fashion Portraits & Street Images

I just got back from teaching at a photographic convention in New Orleans.  The event was for After Dark, which is a 3-day conference for professional photographers.

Here are some of the images I created while I was working there.  This first set of images were while I was teaching fashion lighting…

After a couple images, I thought some motion and action would be fun and add some interest.Created while teaching at After Dark Education in New Orleans. Photography by Bry Cox, BryCox.com - Celebrity Style Imaging, Inc™Another photographer, my friend Lori, took this of me while I was photographing this pretty little baby girl. I love this!

During my off time, I continued to see images in my mind and had to get them.  I ended up borrowing a photographer friend of mine, Angelina, and used her as a model for some of these ideas.  These were some of the images I created of her.Created while teaching at After Dark Education in New Orleans. And I even had fun taking images with my iPhone.  Some of us had a little game going on to see who could get the best iPhone image.  Here are a few of mine.

Abbey and Ken at the Logan LDS Temple, Utah. Photography by Bry Cox, BryCox.com - Celebrity Style Imaging, Inc™

Abbey & Ken’s Wedding Album (Logan Temple & Noah’s)

Abbey and Ken came in to preview and finalize their final album design, and it looks sensational!!  I love the flow, the emotion and the love between these two.  It was such a great wedding and I felt privileged to be apart of it, and to be able to document their special day.

I’ve posted their wedding album design on my main site for you to see.  (click here to view album as a slideshow.)

The album is displayed as slideshow and shows each page spread as an open book, with two facing pages up at a time.

Abbey and Ken’s wedding day was wonderful.  It was a beautiful day, and very windy which I always love.  Storms and weather make the day so much more interesting, and as you can see, we used that wind a lot for some wonderful images.

I’m doing one of my new albums for them too, which is even bigger than my normal 11×14 size album.  I’ve designed a lot of pages to print flush right to the edge, making the images even more breathtaking and large.  I especially love this black and white series of a dramatic establishing image on the left, juxtaposed with these two very tight close-ups through Abbey’s veil.

Abbey and Ken at the Logan Utah temple, photography and design by Bry Cox, BryCox.com Celebrity Style Imaging, Inc.™The images and album design is so fresh and hip, I love every page.  Look at how fun this series is of the couple running out at the end of their day, to a barrage of bubbles in the eye.

I really love how great Ken and Abbey look together — they are a great couple.  I’m so glad they found each other, and I wish them the best in their new life.

I very excited too about some other album designs, and should be able to post them soon, as soon as those clients come in and view them!

Janice Kapp Perry 2001

About nine years ago I was asked to photograph the FCMA Pearl Awards.  Today I got a call from Janice Kapp Perry, reordering the image of her winning for use in an upcoming magazine article.  Here is that image from nine years ago, Janice and her husband.

Janice is a long-time songwriter of inspirational music, and has a household name here in Utah.

In pulling up this image from my archives, I was really relieved and impressed that this looked so good.  Though I feel like I’m constantly growing and becoming a better and better artist each year, it’s fun and refreshing to be able to look back on past work and know that I did a great job for people and that I created something of value and worth to them.

Back then, digital was very new at the time, and being young and techie, I was the first all digital portrait studio around.  So that, as well as having a hip and fresh style and doing a good job for people every time, really helped get me such cool gigs as this at such a young age.  It’s fun to look back on my business and see how far I’ve come in nine years.

Well again, we are getting close to Christmas as far as orders go, so if you’d like some fantastic images of yourself or your family, or if you’d even like to reorder something from the past, now’s the time to give me a call at 801-728-3317.

And feel free to check out my main website at BryCox.com (or my blog if you’re reading this in a separate feed reader BryCox.com/blog).

Roger and Liz

One of the things I love about this time of year, is that it’s the season for family portraits.  It’s also the time of year when I see friends, and sometimes, as is the case with this photo shoot, it’s a combination of both.

This is my good friend Roger and his wife Liz.  They just came in for some portraits, and I love how they looked together.

This first image just sparkles with love and emotion.  They look so happy together!

They needed an updated portrait together, and I thought black and white would best capture the emotion between them.  We took a few different images, but none of us could narrow it down to their one favorite.  We ended up going with these two images instead.

This second image shares many of the same fantastic qualities of the first, but yet it is so completely different.

Maybe you recognize Roger as the guitar player for the band, Ryan Shupe & the RubberBand.  But both Roger and Liz also perform together as a songwriting/singing duo called Forever Blue.  If you get a chance to hear either group, you won’t regret it!

Well again, we are getting close to Christmas as far as orders go, so if you’d like some fantastic images of yourself or your family, now’s the time to give me a call at 801-728-3317.

2010 Christmas CD Design & Gift for You All!

Every year at this time, I have a design project for a Christmas audio CD, and I make sure that I get copies for all my current clients and friends.   This year’s album is absolutely fantastic and I am excited for you all to get a copy.  I just received the finished CDs and have looked them over and love how they look and sound.

This is Wasatch Christmas, a Christmas CD that is produced every year by one of my best friends, James Conlee.  In fact it is a joint project of friends in many ways because the cover painting is by a friend of ours, James Christensen (a famous painter with Greenwich Workshops), and some of the tracks are by our other good friend, Ryan Shupe (Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand), as well as some tracks by James Conlee himself.

Here is how the album looks.  The name of the cover painting is, “Gift for Mrs. Claus.” James Christensen’s paintings are always fascinating and beautiful, and I’m honored to have some of his books in my possession.  I find them inspiring!

Now there are other recording artists on the album, but my favorite tracks are always by James and Ryan.

It’s a little known fact that I design all of the CDs that both James Conlee and Ryan Shupe produce, and I think that this is the 10th CD I’ve designed for James.  Some can be seen right here (James Conlee – Sunday / Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand – Last Man Standing.)

So for all my holiday clients that are ordering this time of year, whether you get a large collection of wall portraits or even just reorder one small print, I am giving away a FREE Wasatch Christmas CD!  The cover painting is phenomenal, the music is phenomenal, and the whole production is worth owning!

We are getting close to Christmas as far as orders go, so if you’d like some fantastic images of yourself or your family, now’s the time to give me a call at 801-728-3317.  I’ll include a Christmas CD with your order.

Amy’s Portfolio and Fitness Images

I love these photographs that I did of Amy.  She needed to update her portfolio, so we had some fun creating some really great images.

This first image is just captivating!  I love the look in the eye, mixed with the deep red background that matches her lips.

After a clothing and hair change, and a new set and lighting setup in the studio, and we made some new images.

I love the smile in these photos; it’s very genuine and makes these images.Another lighting change and a new set and we began the fitness images.

Amy needed more fitness images for her portfolio, and I thought they should look like they came straight out of fitness magazine.  Therefore I lit her like a magazine fitness shoot.

We then ended the session with Amy jogging outside on the street.  It was a creative way to spice up fitness part of the photo shoot.

I love creating photographs on my street — it has such character, and it really works in this portrait of Amy.

Amy was a joy to work with.  She was beautiful and fun, and I love the images we created.

New Award: UTAH HIGH SCORE!

I have won another award!  Yes, I won the high score for Utah!

My four prints that are in professional image competition, have gone on to the district/regional level, where I had the highest case score (total of all four prints added together).  From this point these prints will go on to the national level in 2012.

You may remember these four images when I first entered them at the state level, where I won Master Photographer of the Year, along with TWO Kodak Gallery Awards, a Judges Choice Award, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place, and the Court of Honor!  (past blog entry on these images.)

Here are the four images I entered this year.  I’ll keep you posted as they continue on, as well as keeping you up on the next four prints that will be entered next year in the State level in April.

Speaking in Portland

I’m asked to speak at a lot of photographic workshops around the country, and last week I was teaching and speaking in Portland, Oregon. This particular workshop travels the country to a new state every few months, and is called ‘After Dark.’  It is very hands-on for attendees, where everyone gets to directly interact and work with with me as I photograph all sorts of models in all various lighting conditions.

And here are some of the images I created while working and teaching how to use various types of fashion lighting.

But I also worked inside and out with various models for a few days.  Here are some of those images.

And on the last night, I asked my photographer friend, Angelina, to pose for a few images.

And I finally got a photograph of me!  🙂If you’re a photographer, looking to learn more about how to really light someone in a spectacular way and make anyone look photogenic, then check out my speaking schedule at BryCoxWORKSHOPS.com and come to an event.

McKenzie’s Fashion Senior Portraits

I had a ball photographing McKenzie for her senior portraits.  She has a great style and look, which worked great for my fashion approach to high school seniors.  Seniors really dig and appreciate my magazine and fashion style, and I love the opportunity to be more funky.

The light on light look is incredibly difficult photographically, but looks fantastic!  For all those photographers who follow my blog, these were shot as is, without effects.  The trick is lighting things perfectly.  And as you can see, McKenzie’s features work perfectly for this washed out look!

We did a mix of fashion studio portraits juxtaposed with funky outdoor portraits — all available right here in one place at my studio which also has a outdoor English-style garden studio.  In this image, I’m only using the thick vegetation as a background for texture.

More outside with a change of clothes, and I had a hard time deciding if I liked this better with stark lighting and in color…

…or soft lighting and black and white.  Both are good for different reasons, and again McKenzie really pulled this off well! Then back inside for some more funky images,With so many great photographs from this sitting, it was hard to pick my favorites.  But even still, the entire shoot was a blast and McKenzie was a joy to work with.

If you’re a high school senior and would like some fantastic photographs, give me a call at 801-728-3317.  And feel free to check out my main website at BryCox.com (or my blog if you’re reading this in a separate feed reader BryCox.com/blog).

Bry Cox in THREE International Magazines This Month! (Part 2 – Canada)

As I mentioned in my last blog post, I’m in three magazines this month.  The second of the three is Gallerie, the official magazine of the Professional Photographers of Canada.

My article for them was about balancing the creativity with the technical aspects of photography.  The industry is swamped by new photographers and many of these photographers have creative ideas but are lacking in the technical areas.  These same photographers will say that they don’t want to learn the technical side of photography, because they fear it will make them boring.  This is because some older and established photographers may be very technical but aren’t very creative.  This group fears that more creative attempts will mess up the perfection of their techniques, which make them professional.

The truth is that everyone, all photographers in the industry need to properly balance both the creative and technical aspects to truly be masters of their art.

If you are a member of the Professional Photographers of Canada, this magazine should come to you automatically, and I hope you read and enjoy this article.

(Article published in Gallerie, the official magazine of Professional Photographers of Canada. Printed by Matrix Group Publishing Inc.)

And as soon as the Chinese magazine comes, I will post about it.

In the meantime, if you’d like to see more of my work, or commission me to do a photograph for you, give me a call at 801-728-3317 and check out my website at BryCox.com.
