Meandering in Victoria, British Columbia

Hey everyone.  Today I’ve been archiving images and I came across some photographs I created on a recent trip to Victoria, BC.

I love to go to Victoria.  It is such a beautiful island and city.  These images were created early in the morning — around 4:00 am, while waiting for the ferry to arrive.  After checking in at the port, I had time to kill before the ferry boarded or before any breakfast place opened, so I walked around the city creating photographs.  Here are some of them for you all to see.

Red Leaf in Victoria

I wish you could see these images big and up close.  They look so good up close.  This leaf was on the ground across the street from the grand ‘Empress’ hotel.  I really love the colors and textures in this and the shine of the water from the rain.  Wow!

Victoria 4

And these two images were made while looking in shop windows…

Victoria 2

In this window, you can see both what’s inside the building as well as the reflection of what’s behind me on the street — all juxtaposed together.  Very cool!

I love abstract images ; the interest is in lines, color, textures and other dynamic elements.  The more I’ve taught workshops to photographers and have had to analyze and define my own creative line of thinking in order to explain it to others, the more I’ve realized that when it comes to creating portraits of people, my unique style comes from my love of abstracts — being able to see the abstract shapes and lines in a face or body and then knowing just how to light and compose them into a great image.

With that in mind, I hope you enjoy these.
And until next time America!

Commercial Work: Dr. Feller & Robot

Many people may not know that I do quite a bit of commercial work. Not just the photography, but the design work and printing as well — from bands and cd work, to business cards, to billboards and large vinal banners, for car dealerships, real estate agents, and others. These companies like the fact that I have very competitive pricing on all types of printing, while keeping the quality high.

Here is a recent job I did which can be seen hanging on this doctor’s building in Holladay. I’m doing some more work for this orthodontist this week, so thought I’d post this on my blog for you all to see.

Feller Banner

This orthodontist specialized in a new kind of braces where the teeth are first computer modeled, and then the wire for the braces is bent by a robot. It speeds up the time in which you wear braces.

This robot for this image is actually a 14 inch tall toy made by Sony. I photographed each individually, then after some extensive work putting the two together, produced this banner which stands about 20 feel tall and looks amazing, even up close.

Notice how even the robot casts a perfect shadow on the doctor. Very cool! 🙂

Well, until next time America.

Beach Wedding in Mexico + Ferrari Exit

I put up two more slideshows today on my main site that show two very different wedding albums.  These are the album designs, but in a slideshow form, showing 2 pages up at a time.

The first album is a beach wedding, on a private beach at a resort in Cabo San Lucas Mexico.  It is just stunning!  It starts with everyone getting ready and goes through the ceremony and reception, and ends with the bride and groom running off.

Notice the storm clouds how they get more and more ominous and dark as the night goes on.  So beautiful!  The wind and crashing waves were amazing!

Cabo Wedding

The second album slideshow is  a local wedding for me, photographed right here at the Salt Lake Temple.  The album begins with the bride and groom coming out of the temple and ends with them driving off in a beautiful Ferrari, reminiscent of Magnum PI’s, but yellow.

This day too had some weather and storm clouds which I love to use in photographs.  The first page shows the sun directly behind the Angel Moroni on top of the temple.  As the album goes on, the sun suddenly bursts out of the clouds with some beautiful warm rays.

Check it out…

Angie’s Wedding Album Slideshow

Hey y’all.  Here’s a new slideshow I’ve put up on my site showing the entire layout of one of my bride’s wedding albums — it is absolutely beautiful!

The show, like this this image below, will show two pages facing each other; the spine is down the middle.

Angie’s Page Spread

Click here to see the album slideshow. A new window will open and the movie will begin playing automatically as soon as it fully loads…which takes just a moment or two depending on your interent.

I want albums to tell the story of the couple’s day, and for me quality is everything, down to the smallest details.  For that reason I personally design each album.  Every page is laid out for flow, harmony, balance, and impact, without the use of pre-designed templates or other shortcuts.  I think it’s good to know that so that you can better appreciate the fine details as you see this.

Notice too how this album tells a story, starting off with everyone getting ready, showing all the emotional and intimate moments throughout the day, and ends with the couple leaving at the end.

I’ve got more albums to put up.  When I get the slideshows made, I’ll post them here for you all to see and enjoy.

I come from a creative family, and want to mention that the music was written and recorded by my sister.  Fantastic and moving music!

Well, watch the movie, then afterwards go to BryCoxArt.com and browse around some new temple images for your home and use the promo code posted in my last blog entry for a 20% discount.

Until next time America!

Revamp of BryCoxArt.com with new Online Store

That’s right America, I’ve been working on a new and improved online store, and at the same time revamping the art site to flow better with the store.  And the final changes are up! I’m very excited about it too.

I’ve added a flash gallery for Salt Lake images to match the Italian gallery and added even more Salt Lake images — some of the ones that are seen here at my studio or at the Roof Restaurant in SL that people have asked me about.

BryCox - Canvas Wrap

The new store features a more extensive shopping cart than before with secure processing.  Plus it will showcase a select number of images in certain sizes that will change now and then.

Also, as a thank you to all of my clients, I’m giving a 20% discount for any art orders for the next two weeks (until Mar 19).  Use promo code “openhouse” when you check out for the discount.

This is good for everything in the store, including my famous “Snowfall, Salt Lake City” print which is only $49 regularly, but with the discount makes it about $39.  This is an open-edition print making it very inexpensive while still being a very high quality print.

BryCox - Corner of Borono

Many of my other images are also available, like the image above, as custom cavas gallery wraps in sizes from 20×30 inches up to 40×60 inches.

Check it out at BryCoxArt.com.

Until next time, America!

Cox - Julia 3

One of my good friends, Julia Bachison, has won Miss Utah USA and is now running for Miss USA in April.  She’s got her new website up at JuliaBachison.com with more info and more images for those that would like to support her.

These portraits are some of my absolute favorites lately.  Since I’ve been working on them, I thought I’d post them for you all to see.

Some of you may recognize her from her job as host of TV 24’s community calendar where multiple times a day she’d give us the run-down of what’s going on in Salt Lake City.

Good luck Julia!  You’ll do awesome!

Gateway Wedding Show Followup

BryCox - GWS 4

The Gateway Wedding Show this last Saturday was awesome!  I really like bridal shows, but they also wear me out because they are so much work to put on.

I am one of the contributors of this show, and so besides designing and printing the billboards and doing their website, I also photograph the fashion show on the day of.  Here are some of the images from the show.

The photo on the left is me with some of my friends who were dress models.

These dresses are just exquisite and are available from AltaMODA bridal in Salt Lake.

‘Zen & The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance’ …and QUALITY

As an artist, my mind is usually wide awake and full of ideas at the point most people are sound asleep.  Tonight (or rather ‘this morning’) is no different, and the subject is Quality.  I find that writing my ideas down helps my mind settle and go to sleep.  Since I now have a blog, I’m writing it here….

I finished re-reading one of my favorite books tonight, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance — and no, it’s not about motorcylce maintenance.  Instead it is a internal journey to understand Quality and Truth, and uses a motorcycle roadtrip across America as an analogy.

I initially began re-reading it, excited for spring and planning a motorcylce roadtrip of my own as soon as the weather permits.  I love the book, not just for the thought processes, but because it reminds me of all the thinking I do on a motorcycle roadtrip — just driving for hours, thinking to myself.

But tonight having finished the book again, I’m up, and my mind is thinking about Quality!
BryCox - Motorcycle
I’ve been thinking of all the decisions I’ve made in my business as an artist throughout the years, getting me to where I am now — all based on Quality.

I refuse to sub any of my Quality work out to someone else.  I realize that I could make more money by taking on more jobs and letting Quality slide a little.  But instead I take on fewer but nicer jobs, and fill my days working on every aspect of them, making sure that everything is perfect for my clients.  I realize this takes more time, but I want these pieces I create, to be the most cherished heirlooms a family has.

So hopefully you all realize that it’s not just you in my photographs, but a part of me too.  At some point, we will all pass, and future generations will hopefully inherit these portraits.  It is the workmanship and Quality that will make these last, making it possible for descendants to appreciate these portraits.

In our “microwave” generation, anyone can create a “picture” of someone and do it fast.  My goal constantly is to create a  portrait that cannot be created by anyone else, an image that prefectly captures an inner emotion or story of a loved one, and do it in a way that is a work of art, from how it is lit and composed to how it is finished in it’s final form.

I know from the “‘Thank You’s” I get from my clients, that this is exaclty what they love about my work.  Hopefully if you are new to me and just checking out my website, that you will see that too.

And what is good, Phaedrus,
And what is not good —
Need we ask anyone to tell us these things?

— Robert Pirsig (Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance)

Well that’s it for tonight.  My thougts are down and I’m finally getting tired.  Tomorrow I’ll be back to my regular ‘blog-like’ mindless chatter.  🙂

Until next time America…

AMAZING Fashion Bridals

One of the great reasons for a blog is so that I can show you cool things that I’m currently working on, and then put stunning images like this up for everyone to see.  These are some of the images from the fashion shoot that I used for the I-15 billboard advertising the Gateway Wedding Show tomorrow (Sat 10-4 pm).

I will have these images and many more for you to see close-up and first-hand tomorrow at the show.  Come and say hi!

Christina’s Wedding Album Slideshow

Hi everyone.  If you know me, then you know that I spend a lot of time on my wedding album designs, taking time on each album to make sure that every little thing is perfect.

I limit how many weddings I do because of it, but this is the time of year where I put the finishing touches on many designs before Spring hits.

Here’s one you should see.

BryCox - Christina’s Wedding Slideshow Christina’s Wedding Album

It may take a minuite to load because it’s about 2.3 Megs.

The wedding was at the Bountiful Temple and the reception was at the top of the Canyons in Park City.  Check it out!  I love it!  I’ll be adding it to my slideshow section of my website too.

Hello World – 1st Blog Entry

Well, I did it.  I gave in.  Yes, that’s right….I created a blog.  You’ve all wanted to see it, so here it is.  I’ve entered the blog-o-sphere and have made my mark, and have called this Blog-Topia!

When setting up my blog I was thinking of the Simpson’s episode where Stephen Hawking visits Springfield and says “I wanted to see your utopia, but now I see it is more of a Fruitopia.”

So yes, my Blog-Topia will be more of a BryCox Fruitopia.  I won’t have new stuff every day, but I will put up posts reguarly about cool shoots and out-of-town gigs and seminars and anything else I’m working on in the moment.  All the great stuff you’d expect to see on Bry’s Blog-topia!

Until next time, America…..  -Bry
