Mideast Vacation

This week I taught another week-long workshop, but this time it was in San Diego, California. The weather was awesome, the class was great, and I had a great response from the ideas, theories and techniques I shared with the other photographers.

During these workshops, I have many shoots using local models to demonstrate the various techniques and ideas. But just for fun one night, I created this image using someone that one of photographers in my class had met the night before. Being where I was, and seeing the scarfs that the photographer had in her bag, I created this image to look like Iraq.

Middle-Eastern Vacation

I don’t have a name for it yet, but decided to name this blog entry after an old Neil Young song “Mideast Vacation” I kept thinking about when creating this image.

Anyway….bla, bla, blog. I need to get back to work but will get more images up very soon.
Take care, and until next time, America!

Great Lakes Photo Workshop

Last week I taught a portrait workshop up in the Great Lakes area in a town called Traverse City — a heavily wooded town on the beaches of the Great Lakes.

This was my second time teaching a full week-long workshop here, in this area.  I love doing those kinds of events.  It is always so fun to see my photographer friends from different parts of the country, see what they are up to and share new ideas with each other — as well as meet new friends too.

At this workshop, I had an excellent group of photographers signed up to learn some of my special techniques.

Here is an image (one of my favorites) that I created for the class.  I set it up specifically in an spot with terrible lighting; a spot that would normally be very hard for a photographer to create anything good at all, let alone something amazing.

The idea is to work with the problems and use them to your advantage.

Without going into detail, this is the final product!  This also shows how I use my custom designs, swirls, elements and edges that I have created from scratch, to embellish the image even more.

For those professional photographers looking to learn more, check out my upcoming workshops around the country, or email me with your contact info if you’d like to find out about an upcoming workshop in the Utah area when it gets announced.

Until next time, America!

Ryan Shupe, Live at Sandy Amphitheater

What a show!  Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand played on Friday night at the Sandy Amphitheater to a packed house, and it was awesome!  It is always nice when the band has a local, in-state show, and this show in particular was to kick off their new album, Last Man Standing.

Here are some of the images I did of their concert that night.

Shupe 3

I also did the shoot for their latest album, which can be seen here.  If you haven’t heard them in concert, you should.  Their shows have so much energy and are absolutely amazing!  It is very refreshing to see musicians that actually play instruments, and who are super proficient at them as well.

And check out their new album and let me know what you think.

Until next time, America!

Karily’s Wedding (SL Temple, La Caille)

I posted the slideshow for Karily’s wedding today. You have to see this one! It is fantastic! It was in December at the Salt Lake Temple, with the reception held at La Caille.

I love the vivid colors and how happy and in love the couple is, and the entire flow of the album.

Karily\'s Wedding

Click either the photo (album spread) above, or click here to see the slideshow. And remember, my album slideshows are laid out to show two pages at a time, as if the album is open (like the spread above).

I want my albums to tell the story of the couple’s day, and quality is everything to me, down to the smallest details. I personally design each album. Every page is laid out for flow, harmony, balance, and impact, without the use of pre-designed templates or other shortcuts.

Notice too how the album tells the story of the couple’s day, from beginning to end!

Enjoy, and until next time, America!

The Construction Detour is Over!

Ah! After months and months of working on my street, the job seems to be done and the detour is gone. Everyone can now use my street as it was intended…to drive straight to my place!

This construction job started on my street to replace an old bridge back in November and was supposed to be done after Christmas. And in thinking about it, and in all all fairness, June is after Christmas. ;-)

In any case, I just wanted everyone to know that the easy way to get to my place is open! It’s a straight shot to and from the freeway again!

Until next time, America!
